Tips for Maintaining a Pond:

Most gardeners that look after a pond know the importance of clean and quality water that ensures water features. If you have no idea how to keep your pond’s water clean, then it can be challenging to maintain the pond.

The pond’s water may look clear and clean to you, but if your fish is behaving differently, then it is a sign that there is something wrong with water quality. That’s why you need a little knowledge to resolve the issues of pond water. Here are a few tips that will help you a lot to keep your water clean:

·         Cleaning up of the Pond Regularly:

The dead material and dirt particle gather in the pond’s bottom with time. Leaves that are at the bottom of ponds area major danger because they can liberate some poisonous gas when they undergo a decay process. In this way, these dead leaves can disturb the environmental balance.

To keep your pool clean, you must use a net that can collect the dead leaves and the debris, and then discard these wastes.

With time, the mud also settles down the pond, so you should remove it too. To remove the sludge, a pool vacuum is used that can suck the mud from the downside. However, you should not remove all the mud because a few mudsare necessary for the algae growth.

You must be careful while using a pond vacuum;you need to alter the suction; in this way, you can remove the mud easily.  After cleaning is done, you must reload the pool with clean & freshwater. After refilling, place all your fishes back to the pond water carefully.

It is advised that you clean the pond in the spring season because the livestock is less active.

·         Grow more Water Plants:

If you have planned to plant more trees, the suitable time is early summers because the water will remain warm to support the new plants’ speedy growth. You must consider the following new plants for your pond garden: lilies, marshes, and marginal.

If you want to grow your plants quickly, then you may use a fertilizer that is suitable for these plants. Apply the fertilizer in every fifth week. You must be careful about the types of plants you are growing because some aquatics eat up these plants, so do not use the inorganic pesticides at all.

·         Control the Freezing of Water in winter:

Every pond owner faces the issue of ice in winters that will put the life of their aquatics in danger. When the water on the top surface of the pond freezes, the water on the lower side will receive only a limited amount of oxygen, and the temperatures start decreasing; in this way, the lives of fishes will be susceptive.

So you can stop the freezing on the top by using a drifting ball, you can use a de-icer, a wood piece, or a heater. Using these tricks, you can melt the ice but don’t force it to break becauseit can injure aquatic life.

The most beneficial trick is to use wood floating on the top surface because it can absorb the ice, thus preventing any danger to life.

·         Avoid Overfeeding your Livestock:

Do not overfeed your fishes because the fishes’ feed not eaten up will be left for the decaying process. So feed your fish’s only one ounce in a day so that they can finish it at once. Choose a standard fish a feed that can float over the pond’s surface instead of settling down the bottom.

Try to control the excessive algae growth because it can be problematic. However, the alga in a controlled manner is a source of food for aquatic life.
