Oscar de la Renta Debuts Children’s Collection

Posted on September 13, 2012 at 3:09 pm / Posted by

Oscar de la Renta staged his first children's show during New York fashion week.

The show was held in De la Renta's showroom in New York City.

It's rare that a fashion crowd "oohs" and "ahhs" at a fashion show, but this show was an exception.

The dresses shown for girls were just as intricate and luxe as what De la Renta shows for adult women in his ready-to-wear collection.

The boys clothes had a "I'm on my way to my country estate" vibe (or in this case, my parent's country estate).

Several kids actually skipped down the runway.

One catwalker was wheeled down the runway in a cart, another skated down the runway.

Prints, which were all over the Spring 2013 runways, have trickled down to childrenswear.

French blue, another trend from womenswear, is having a moment in kid's fashion.

Top fabrics were used in collection including lace and hand crochet.

Here, a standout from the collection, an eyelet party dress.

The floral print dresses were also picture perfect.

Of course, it wouldn't be a children's show without Peter Pan collars.

Here, a signature Oscar de la Renta silhouette downsized for children.

Along with the launch of a children's collection, Oscar de la Renta is launching a children's blog George & Ruby.

You know its not your average show when all of the models are under ten years old, and some are skipping down the runway. Such was the scene at Oscar de la Renta’s debut of his children’s collection during New York fashion week. One model rode down the runway in a wagon. Two boys skated down the runway. Meanwhile the audience “oohed” and “aahed” (it was definitely a refreshing break from the rest of the fashion week calendar). The clothes consisted of eyelet party frocks for the girls and searsucker shorts suits for the boys.

Along with the launch, Oscar de la Renta is launching a children’s blog George & Ruby, worth a visit alone to see some adorable behind the scenes snapshots of De La Renta fitting some seriously precious tiny tots.

De La Renta isn’t the only designer jumping on the luxe childrenswear train. Both Dolce & Gabbana and Lanvin have launched children’s collections aiming to capitalize on the booming luxury market in recent months.

If one thing is for certain, thanks to this collection expect to see mothers and daughters lunching in matching frocks at Nello’s come spring after the clothes hit stores. Click through the slideshow above to see the collection.
