How to Look Luxe… Minus the Price Tag

Looking like a million dollars doesn’t always require a supersized bank account. There are several ways you can make your outfit look designer, without blowing a fortune. If you’d like to learn how to inject a bit of affordable luxury into your look, here are a few useful tips.

The celebrity look, without the sky-high prices

Keep it simple. If you take a look at any fashion magazine, you’ll notice that a lot of the looks are clean and simple; with perhaps a pop of color or detail. Investing in a few hardwearing basics, like a pair of fantastic-fitting jeans, a slouchy shirt, and a plain t-shirt is a good idea; as these can be matched with virtually anything. That means more wear for your money, folks.

Select one statement piece. Following on from the point above, it’s great to have a single statement piece, which differentiates your outfit from everyone else’s. This doesn’t have to be clothing. It could be an amazing necklace or an unusual belt, for example. Just make sure it’s eye-catching, bold, and ultra on-trend.

Go vintage (and save the planet)! A great way to look expensive is to have a one-of-a-kind piece; and you can find these easily at vintage shops and clothing auction sites. Be prepared to browse for a while to find the perfect items; but embrace this process, as it’s half the fun. Remember, every time you buy second-hand, you’re also reducing your environmental impact too.

Accessorize. Designers often bring an outfit to life with a few high-impact accessories. This could be many things; for example, a chic wide-brimmed hat, or an Aztec-inspired fabric belt. As long as it’s noticeable and brings your outfit to life, it’ll scream luxurious.

Look at the catwalks. Don’t worry, you don’t have to traipse to London or Milan to attend Fashion Week. Just get the round-ups online, then emulate the latest styles in your look for a fraction of the price. For example, lots of top designers were using polka-dots in their clothing, which is something you can replicate for less, thanks to the prevalence of polka-dots in high street stores.

Get the make-up right. If you like to wear make-up, aim for a pop of color on the lips or the eyes (going for both is usually over-kill). A ruby-red lipstick immediately gives your look a ‘catwalk model’ vibe, as does a bright eyeshadow or sleek black eyeliner. If you want to get the sun-kissed, tropical beach look, apply some shimmering bronzer to your cheekbones.

Designer fragrance. The scent is also important. A cheap spray won’t offer quite the same effect; instead, go for a designer-influenced perfume, preferably one that features exclusive ingredients like ambergris or oud wood.

Get playful. You don’t have to take yourself too seriously! Make like a top Instagram influencer and inject a bit of fun into your look too. Whether it’s a t-shirt with a cartoon logo on it, or a fun and frilly dress, a bit of playfulness immediately gives the impression that you love having a good time socializing.
